In international commercial disputes, winning a favorable judgment does not mean the case is over. For businesses, the more practical question is: after finally winning a case overseas, how do you actually recover the money?

Recently, Attorney Zhou Shichao's team assisted a Guangzhou company in handling an international contract dispute. We not only successfully obtained a favorable judgment from a U.S. court, but also continued to make efforts during the subsequent enforcement phase, effectively extending the scope of enforcement from the company to the individual shareholders.
Here’s how the case unfolded: In 2021, the Guangzhou company shipped a batch of goods to a U.S. buyer. After receiving the goods, the buyer repeatedly refused to pay the remaining balance despite multiple payment reminders. As a result, the Guangzhou company reached out to Attorney Larry Zhou's team for help. Our attorneys collaborated with experienced local attorneys and took the lead throughout the process.
During the litigation phase, our legal team worked closely with the U.S. attorneys, systematically reviewing key materials such as contracts, documents, and communication records, and developed a clear litigation strategy, ultimately securing a favorable judgment.
After the judgment was obtained, our attorneys did not stop there. Instead, they proactively advanced the enforcement process, actively assisting the U.S. attorneys in tracing the buyer's assets, while also applying to the court to issue an Information Subpoena and a Restraining Notice to banks where the buyer might have accounts, successfully freezing all balances in the buyer's accounts.
When the buyer's assets available for enforcement were limited, our attorneys continued to work with the U.S. attorneys to petition the court to order the company's shareholders to truthfully disclose the company's asset status, further uncovering leads for enforcement.
Through close collaboration with U.S. attorneys, our team continuously worked to secure actual recovery for the client, fully demonstrating the key value of our legal team in international legal services.
